Refund policy

Papertail Fox Returns & Refunds

We want you to be delighted with the things you bring into your planning and journaling life. If something isn’t right, we’ll do our best to fix it while still keeping our tiny-fox shop sustainable.


1. Return window

You can request a return within 30 days of the delivery date shown on your tracking.

To be eligible for a standard return:

  • Your item must be unused and in its original packaging
    (no writing in notebooks, no inked pens, no unrolled washi/PET tape, no missing sleeves/boxes/belly bands).
  • You’ll need proof of purchase (order number or confirmation email).

If it’s been more than 30 days since delivery, we’re usually not able to offer a refund or exchange unless there’s a clear defect.


2. Change-of-mind returns

Changed your mind or ordered the wrong thing?

  • Eligible items: unused, unopened, in resellable condition with all original packaging.
  • You are responsible for return shipping costs for change-of-mind returns.
  • Original shipping fees are non-refundable.

Once we receive and inspect the items, we’ll issue a refund to your original payment method if everything checks out.


3. Damaged, defective, or wrong items

If your order arrives damaged, defective, or not what you ordered, that’s on us.

As soon as you notice an issue:

  1. Email supportfox@papertailfox.com

  2. Include your order number and a brief description of the problem

  3. Attach clear photos of:

  • The item
  • Any damage/defect
  • The packaging, if the box or mailer is damaged

Depending on the situation, we may:

  • Send a replacement,
  • Offer a refund, or
  • Provide another reasonable solution.

For low-value items or obvious damage, we may not require you to send the item back.


4. Items that can’t be returned

To keep things fair and practical, some items are final sale:

  • Used or opened items (e.g. inked pens, notebooks with writing, washi/PET tape that has been unrolled/used)
  • Digital products (if/when offered, such as downloads or printables)
  • Gift cards
  • Sale / clearance items marked “final sale”

If something is clearly marked as non-returnable on the product page, that note overrides this general policy.


5. How to start a return

To start a return, contact us at supportfox@papertailfox.com with:

  • Your name
  • Your order number
  • The item(s) you’d like to return
  • Whether it’s:
    • Change of mind / not what you expected, or
    • Damaged / defective / wrong item (with photos)

If your return is approved, we’ll send you:

  • The return address, and
  • Any specific instructions we need you to follow.

You’re responsible for:

  • Packing the items securely so they’re not damaged on the way back
  • Using a trackable shipping service (strongly recommended)

We’re not responsible for returns lost or damaged in transit.


6. Refund timing

Once your return arrives, we’ll inspect it and let you know if it’s approved or denied.

  • If approved, we’ll process the refund within 5–7 business days.
  • Your bank or card issuer may need additional time to post the refund.

Original shipping charges are not refundable, except where we made an error (wrong item, clearly defective, etc.).


7. Exchanges

We don’t currently do direct item-for-item exchanges through the system.

If you’d like something different:

  • We’ll process a refund for the returned item (if eligible).
  • You can place a new order for the item you want.

For damaged/defective/wrong items, we may send replacements directly instead of asking you to reorder.


8. International orders (including Canada)

For orders shipped outside the U.S.:

  • Any customs duties, taxes, or import fees paid are non-refundable through us.
  • If you return an item, you are responsible for return shipping and any additional customs or handling fees charged on the way back.

We’ll still cover issues where we’re at fault (wrong item, clearly defective items), and we’ll work with you to find the least painful solution.
