Fudenosuke Pastel Brush Pen Set | Tombow

Notes from The Fox
There is a reason brush letterers reach for the soft-tip Fudenosuke first when they want pastel work. The flexible elastomer tip moves smoothly from a hairline upstroke to a confident downstroke, and these six pastels carry that same expressive range into colors that show up beautifully on dark paper too.
I keep this set close at hand for envelope addressing, journal headers, and the kind of soft holiday lettering that needs a little glow. The chalky finish on black cardstock is what wins people over, but the colors are just as lovely on white paper for everyday cards and notes.
Product Details and Specs
This set includes six soft-tip Fudenosuke brush pens from Tombow in pastel colors: White, Pale Yellow, Light Green, Light Blue, Lavender, and Soft Pink. The flexible elastomer tip produces lines from 0.3 mm to 1.3 mm depending on pressure. Each pen is filled with water-based pigment ink that is light-resistant and water-resistant once dry, and the formula is opaque enough to layer on dark paper. The barrel is made from recycled polypropylene plastic. Set of 6 pens, non-refillable. Store horizontally to keep the tips fresh.

How to Use
Hold the pen at roughly a 45-degree angle to the paper. Light pressure on upstrokes gives you thin lines, and firmer pressure on downstrokes builds the thick, expressive strokes that define modern brush lettering. On dark paper the ink starts out almost invisible and brightens as it dries, so let each pass set before judging the color, and add a second or third layer when you want more opacity. These pens work best on smooth paper such as Rhodia, Tomoe River, and other fountain-pen-friendly journals. Rough or toothy paper can fray the soft tip over time.

FAQ
Are these opaque enough to use on black paper?
Yes. The pastel formula is designed to show on both white and dark paper. On black the ink starts transparent and brightens as it dries, and a second pass builds richer color.
Are these pens refillable?
No. Fudenosuke brush pens are single-use, but Tombow makes individual replacement pens if you wear a color out faster than the rest.
Is the ink waterproof?
The ink is water-resistant once fully dry. For watercolor work, give your lettering a few minutes to cure before adding washes on top.
What paper works best?
Smooth, fountain-pen-friendly paper such as Rhodia, Tomoe River, Leuchtturm1917, and Clairefontaine. Rough sketchbook paper still works but will wear the soft tip faster.
Is this part of the mix-and-match deal?
This set is not part of the buy 5 get 1 free deal, which applies only to Suatelier Design stickers and MT washi tape.
