Notes from The Fox
Sumi-iro means "ink black" in Japanese, and it refers to the deep, rich black of traditional sumi ink used in calligraphy and brush painting. This is the foundational color in any stamp pad collection. The Shachihata Iromoyo version of black is intense and clean, producing crisp impressions that hold every detail of your stamp design. The oil-based ink dries fast and does not bleed, which makes it great for both bold stamps and fine-line work. If you only buy one Iromoyo pad, this is the one to start with. It is the workhorse of the set, and the one you will use more than any other.
Product Details and Specs
This Shachihata Iromoyo stamp pad features oil-based pigment ink in the traditional Japanese color Sumi-iro (ink black). The ink is acid-free, fast-drying, lightfast, and water-resistant once dry. The ultra-fine fiber pad surface ensures clean, sharp ink transfer even with stamps that have fine or detailed patterns. The pad measures 63mm by 40mm. The transparent lid displays the color name, and the base is designed for stacking. Refill ink is available separately.

How to Use
Press your stamp onto the pad with light, even pressure, then stamp onto paper. The Sumi-iro black produces deep, saturated impressions that work well for outlines, text stamps, and detailed designs. The ink dries in just a few seconds on most absorbent papers. If you find the impression too dark for your project, stamp once on scrap paper first to remove some excess ink, then stamp onto your final piece for a lighter result. Not the best fit for glossy or coated pages, but it works great on card stock, kraft paper, and most journal pages.
